Mexican Apple Crop Hit by Hail
The Mexican Ministry of Rural Development has confirmed that 150 acres of apple trees in Sierra de Arteaga have suffered severe damage from a recent hail storm, according to El Diario de Coahuila. 
Head of the ministry, Noé Garza Flores noted that the growers will receive extensive support. It will coordinate with producers to assess damage, and help replace anti-hail nets and support packing and marketing of the apples.
President of the Apple Producers Association said that the storm lasted between 20 and 25 minutes, bringing hail that reached 20 and 30 millimeters in diameter, according to Noticiero Televisa.
He noted that though the majority of the damage took place in apple orchards, other tree fruits like peaches, apricots, and plums were hit as well.
Flores said that as of yet, no support has been provided to growers in Arteaga, but an assessment is underway to evaluate the extent of the damage and obtain federal and state resources.
