NEWARK, DE - As sustainability has become a major differentiator for consumers in the produce aisle, Oppy is wielding its nearly 165 years of sustainable practices to further its environmental stewardship. Supporting these efforts, the company has appointed Garland Perkins to the new role of Senior Manager of Innovation and Sustainability.

Garland Perkins, Senior Manager of Innovation and Sustainability, Oppy“Oppy is keyed into the importance of sustainability and how imperative it is for surviving and thriving into the future. We have big plans and big targets: for ourselves, and for our partners, all of which I am incredibly thrilled to be a part of, and honored to be leading,” shared Perkins.

Perkins has been with Oppy for almost a decade and has led innovation strategy for the company since 2019, a press release explained. Through her expertise, Oppy has helped to pioneer shelf-life extending technology through extensive trials, positioning her as the logical choice for this new role that will focus on minimizing food waste.

Oppy recently announced it has appointed Garland Perkins to the new role of Senior Manager of Innovation and Sustainability

“Ensuring produce has an efficient shelf-life to ultimately deliver an excellent consumer experience safeguards the need for outside interventions,” added Perkins. “It’s all in the spirit of mitigating food waste and ensuring our products are of the utmost quality.”

Steve Roosdahl, Vice President of Operations, OppyUntil recently, Steve Roosdahl was the one guiding the management and measurement of sustainability efforts. After Roosdahl was promoted to Vice President of Operations last summer, it became necessary to find different leadership for Oppy’s sustainability strategy, and Perkins was the natural choice for the job as the company realized that sustainability and innovation go hand-in-hand.

Karin Gardner, Executive Director of Marketing, commented on the appointment.

Karin Gardner, Executive Director of Marketing, Oppy“Through her career, and especially as our innovation lead, Garland has established herself as a creative but pragmatic strategist with the perseverance to see new opportunities through from start to finish,” commented Gardner. “By applying the same open-minded yet disciplined approach to the direction of our sustainability goals, Garland will doubtless guide them forward successfully into the future.”

Congratulations to Garland Perkins on stepping into this new role that will help shape the future of Oppy!
