Associated Wholesale Grocers Announces Retirement of Don Woods, Jr. and Appoints Successor; Barry Queen and Dan Funk Comment
KANSAS CITY, KS - A talented leader at Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) is marking the end of an impressive tenure. Don Woods, Jr., Vice Chair of the AWG Board of Directors, has announced his upcoming retirement, with AWG Board Member Dale Trahan, Owner of Dale L. Trahan Enterprises, now stepping in as AWG’s Vice Chair.
Woods is the Owner of Woods Super Markets and has served on the AWG Board for more than 38 years, serving as Vice Chair for 24 years.
“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Don for his unwavering dedication to AWG and its members for nearly four decades,” said Barry Queen, Chairman of the Board for AWG. “Throughout the years, his hard work, passion, and expertise have left an indelible mark on AWG, creating a positive impact on our members and the community at large.”
Upon Woods’ retirement, the board elected Steve Clarke to serve as his successor, a press release explained. Clarke serves as the Vice President of County Fair, a family-owned and operated company that operates six stores in Nebraska and South Dakota.
Clarke also serves on the AWG Strategic Planning Committee.
“It is an honor to be chosen to serve on the AWG Board of Directors,” said Clarke. “I am looking forward to working with the current Board of Directors and AWG Leadership to help continue AWG’s growth and success.”
Dan Funk, AWG President and Chief Executive Officer, also commented on Steve’s appointment.
"We are thrilled to welcome Steve Clarke to AWG's Board of Directors,” said Funk. “His hands-on experience as an operator of a successful, growing family business and his dedication to the industry and community involvement will make him a valuable member of the board."
