Boskovich Farms’ Darrell Beyer Shares Broccoli Update During a Strong Market

OXNARD, CA - For us over here in California, the sun’s rays are a blessing coming out of cold weather. Spirits seem to lift with a replenished dosage of vitamin D, and the sunshine couldn’t come too quickly for some. I called on Darrell Beyer, Organic Sales Manager for Boskovich Farms, to share how the broccoli market is doing now that the days are getting longer.

Darrell Beyer, Organic Sales Manager, Boskovich Farms“We’re currently in the first half of our organic broccoli program,” Darrell started off. “Our program started on December 1 and will go until April. The cooler temperatures have slowed the growth, but the quality has been amazing.”

Despite the delay in harvest, the broccoli growers are keeping their chins up this season.

Boskovich Farms’ organic broccoli program has been seeing amazing quality and steady volumes despite the delay in harvest

“Supplies are getting tighter, and the conventional market is strong. The organic broccoli volume has been pretty steady with 5,000 to 6,000 cartons harvested weekly,” continued Darrell.

In my family, we go through a ton of broccoli every week, so quality always has my eye. Boskovich Farms offers its organic broccoli in crowns and 14-count bunches for both retail and foodservice, along with a whole suite of conventional and organic items.

Hopefully we can see more of the sun’s rays in the coming weeks. Keep reading AndNowUKnow as we cover more news in the fresh produce sector.
