“Warmer weather and past rains have brought on more product for the current week and for the week to come. At the moment, there is plenty of supply in Salinas and Huron. The supply should remain normal through Thanksgiving, and with heightened demand to follow, supply should tighten up towards the end of the season. Crops in Salinas have revealed some brown bead and hollow core brought on by the warmer weather, but Huron and Yuma have not shown any problems.”
Russell Dutra, Product Manager at Green Giant Fresh
“Weather has been the biggest factor in production this season. This has been an awesome summer in comparison with previous years. There has been a lot of good quality broccoli all summer long. There have been some ups and downs as far as supply week to week, but overall there is a great supply going into the Thanksgiving holidays. Due to the warmer weather, some of the late season varieties have shown some hollow core. But overall production appears good.”
Margaret D'Arrigo-Martins, Executive VP of Sales & Marketing of D'Arrigo Brothers
“Recent erratic weather patterns in the valley, with fluctuations between 60 and 90 degree weather, have caused production to be light. Overall, Thanksgiving should have normal supply with higher demand peaking after the holiday. The summer has mostly proven cool and so quality has generally been great and broccoli remains a great product to promote.”
