Duda Farm Fresh Foods' C.R. Water Talks Start to Yuma Season

YUMA, AZ - The time of this tumultuous year is winding down quickly, and as Yuma’s veg season gains steam, Duda Farm Fresh Foods is seeing traction in red and green leaf lettuce, iceberg lettuce, romaine, and broccoli.

“September–October was warmer than normal, bringing the crop in a little ahead of schedule, which worked in our favor,” C.R. Water, Desert Operations Manager, shares. “Harvest started a few days early—around November 4—due to those above normal temps, making for a nice transition from Salinas. So far we are on track and close to schedule, with good quality and volumes.”

The season kicked off to a tight market, C.R. tells me, with some expected slowing in demand bringing balance to supply the week of Thanksgiving.

“We anticipated a slowing in purchase as people have already bought their produce ahead of the holiday week,” he points out. When looking to the weeks ahead, C.R. adds, “Now, though it’s a little too soon to say, we don’t foresee any major issues in keeping up with demand. Of course, we work with Mother Nature and have to be nimble to pivot should there be any changes in the market, supply or demand, throughout the season, but as of right now we are in a good spot!”
