SALINAS, CA - One of the things I love most about this industry is our ability to innovate within staple categories. For Tanimura & Antle, this idea is central within the company’s category plans, as I recently found out when speaking to Vince Gomez, Product Manager of Specialty Crops. We dialed in on the supplier’s Tanimura & Antle Artisan® Sweet Red Onions, and how this product makes for ideal retail promotions.

Vince Gomez, Product Manager of Specialty Crops, Tanimura & Antle“Each product in our Artisan Family of Products are hand crafted and the result of years of experience and innovation,” Vince began. “Our Artisan products offer our customers and consumers unique, flavorful attributes, and our Tanimura & Antle Artisan Sweet Red Onions are certainly no exception. These proprietary varieties are unique and developed over decades from authentic Italian stock that produces an exceptional flavor which sets it apart from a traditional red onion.”

As retailers ready for promotions across Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, and other upcoming summertime holidays, this onion is a perfect addition to produce programs.

Tanimura & Antle's Artisan® Sweet Red Onions are hand-harvested and backed by years of variety innovation

“We expect plenty of product to promote with our customers. Our Artisan Sweet Red Onion fresh harvest window typically runs from May through October,” Vince explained. “Promotional opportunities are available throughout this period. To support promotional opportunities, we have various marketing assets available to customers to use in store and online such as recipes, photography, store signage, display bins, and more.”

Spring and summer grilling menus are simply incomplete without onions, and the supplier’s upcoming fresh crop of Artisan Sweet Red Onions will keep its partners well stocked.

For more than 20 years, Tanimura & Antle has been breeding Artisan® Sweet Red Onions in the Italian tradition

“Our new crop of Artisan Sweet Italian Red Onions will be shipping from our Yuma, Arizona, facility in early May. We transition to our farms in the San Joaquin Valley, California, immediately following Yuma, in mid-June. From July to October, we transition to Monterey County,” Vince noted.
