A winter weather advisory is in effect for New Jersey while new storm systems develop in the central and western parts of the country, presenting difficulties for shippers across the nation.

The New Jersey winter weather advisory is to remain in effect until noon Friday. Much of the Northeast has been hit with wet snow and strong winds during the tail end of this week.

Connecticut is expecting to be hit by 7 inches of heavy, wet snow and wind gusts that could hit 50 mph. A coastal flood warning was in effect starting Thursday morning for east-facing shores in Massachusetts, with up to a 3-foot surge at high tide in some areas. Central Massachusetts is bracing for 4 to 8 inches of snow.

The storm has already buried parts of the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, but things are far from over.

The storm developing over the central U.S. is expected to bring severe weather to the southern plains and accumulating snows to the Midwest.

Despite transportation complications, the storm could prove to be beneficial for New Jersey growers.

A spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of Agriculture told AndNowUKnow that at this time of year, snow provides a cover for the soil and when it melts, it regenerates the aquifers vital for farmers during dry spells during the growing season.
