Albertsons Streamlines Eastern Distribution

UPPER MARLBORO, MD - Much like one would regard a chess board, retailers across the country are weighing individual markets as potential black and white squares to move to—or even away from. Albertsons is the latest representative of the sector to implement a new strategy that will redistribute its abilities to a key market.

Specifically, Albertsons is moving a Safeway Distribution Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, to Denver, Pennsylvania, according to a report by local news source ABC 7 WJLA. The move bolsters Albertsons’ distribution network and will help to better serve 275 Acme and mid-Atlantic Safeway stores.

An Albertsons spokesperson disclosed that this “will help fuel the company’s investments and benefit its e-commerce business, its brick-and-mortar stores, and its customers,” while also establishing a more efficient supply chain, the news source reports.

Along with the move, 300 new jobs will be created at the new facility in Denver.

“The company will work with employees and union representatives at the Upper Marlboro distribution center to identify new employment opportunities. Where possible, the company will place as many people in open positions elsewhere,” Albertsons said in a statement.
