Chief Executive Officer of Sam's Club, Kathryn McLay, to Head Walmart International Division



UNITED STATES - Walmart recently announced a strategic Chief transition among its ranks. The retailer has promoted Kathryn McLay, Chief Executive Officer of its Sam’s Club division, to head up its $100 billion international business.

As Reuters reported, McLay may have her work cut out for her, as the transition occurs during a time of high inflation squeezing global markets.

Her track record however is testimony to her endurance in the space. A former executive for Australian retailer Woolworth’s, McLay took over the role of Sam’s Club CEO in 2019 after holding various positions within Walmart, including Vice President of Strategy and Executive Vice President of Neighborhood Markets.

In her new role, McLay will be in charge of running an international business that spans 19 countries, including China, Mexico, and South Africa. She will be succeeding the role of Judith McKenna, who announced her retirement after 27 years with the retailer.

In addition to this news, Walmart announced that Christopher Nicholas, who is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Walmart U.S., will replace McLay as CEO of Sam’s Club.
