G&R Farms' Walt Dasher Discusses Current Onion Outlook

GLENNVILLE, GA - Pressure on the onion market looks to be releasing as the holiday merchandising window approaches, with steady volume on par with expectations and good quality to keep demand coming.

Walt Dasher, Vice President, G&R Farms“Volume out of Peru is normal for the time frame and with promotional volumes planned ahead of the holidays,” Walt Dasher, Vice President of G&R Farms, recently shared. “I expect everything to remain normal and the flow of product to remain strong moving toward fourth quarter sales.”

Onion pricing does remain higher for the moment, according to a recent source report from Pro*Act, and so is the quality of sweet onions coming into the market.

Quality is very good and size is very consistent due to very good growing weather for the Peru season. The sandy soil and naturally dry, low humidity climate makes for excellent conditions,” Walt pointed out.

This has the company especially excited to meet with buyers, first in Nashville, Tennessee, this week for Southern Innovations and then late next month in Orlando, Florida, for the Global Produce & Floral Expo.

“We’re looking forward to Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Innovations and International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce & Floral Expo, and we are particularly excited to debut a new product at IFPA—stay tuned,” Walt teased.

Stay tuned we shall!
