Greek Authorities Uncover Cocaine Hidden in Banana Cargo
GREECE - Diligence and dedication have once again paid off for authorities in Greece, as it has helped them halt the distribution of narcotics through the use of fresh produce. Recently, law enforcement in the country uncovered a large quantity of cocaine in a container of bananas in the Piraeus port.
According to reporting from ekathimerini.com, authorities retrieved 80 packages of cocaine within banana cargo originating from Ecuador and heading for Thessaloniki. The packages were discovered via a tip to the Hellenic Coast Guard, who used a special Kyber x-ray machine and specially trained dogs to find the drugs.
In total, law enforcement found 91.5 kilos (201.7 lbs) of cocaine worth over $4.4 million.
