WASHINGTON, DC - With hopes of helping eliminate hunger and reduce diet-related diseases by 2030, the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) is taking its efforts to Washington, DC. On September 28, the organization will be participating in the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.

“We are proud to partner with the White House and others to combat these serious concerns across the country,” said Cathy Burns, IFPA Chief Executive Officer. “It is essential that leaders in Washington be aware of the need to transform how our country eats, feeds, and nourishes itself and make steps toward a healthier and more sustainable future. Additionally, we look forward to highlighting the role IFPA plays not just in our country’s health but in the vital role of our economy.”

During the conference, Burns will advocate for the fresh produce industry alongside President Biden, Secretary Vilsack, senior policy makers, and other industry and advocacy leaders. In addition, IFPA will also provide all the fresh produce served and florals displayed at the conference, a press release noted.

The conference shortly follows the International Fresh Produce Association Washington Conference, which is being held September 26–28. During this event, IFPA will share the results of its first economic impact study evaluating the fresh produce industry’s multi-billion-dollar role in the United States economy and nationwide employment.

Earlier this year, IFPA also released an eight-point plan on a national nutrition strategy, titled the Fruit and Vegetable Moonshot.

Since the White House conference was announced, the association has mobilized members to provide input, provided recommendations to address nutrition security, encouraged widespread stakeholder feedback, and more.
