Kroger Invests $20 Million Into Recently Acquired Marsh Supermarkets

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Following last month's $16 million purchase of 11 Marsh Supermarkets by Topvalco, a Kroger subsidiary, the chain has released much-anticipated plans for the stores. After finalizing the sale, Kroger revealed on Wednesday that it would prioritize reopening seven of the stores and spend $20 million to renovate.

According to source Indianapolis Business Journal, the fate of the remaining four stores has yet to be disclosed. Some analysts speculate that the chain may not reopen stores where it has nearby locations.

“We understand the excitement that comes with anticipation of a new neighborhood Kroger store,” Kroger said, according to the source. “But reopening is not as simple as taking possession of a building and turning the lights back on.”

  • 10679 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville
  • 5 Boone Village, Zionsville
  • 1500 W. McGalliard Road, Muncie
  • 715 Tillotson Ave., Muncie
  • 1825 Kinser Pike, Bloomington

The four with yet-to-be-determined futures are:

  • 12520 E. 116th St., Fishers
  • 2904 South Indiana 135, Greenwood
  • 1435 W. 86th St., Indianapolis

There is no indication yet of when the seven identified stores will reopen. However, details have been released that five stores will operate under the Kroger brand, and the remaining two will operate under the Pay Less banner. The source reports that the company has also announced that it has hired “several hundred” former Marsh employees to fill open positions.
