Calling all investors...if you are shopping for value, Kroger stock is one of the top value picks for 2013. According to J. Royden Ward, Editor of the Cabot Benjamin Graham Value Letter, there are several reasons why this option is at the front of the line.

In an article on MSN Money, J. Royden Ward notes that Kroger is one of the largest U.S. grocers, with 2,422 supermarkets in 31 states offering a format that includes food and drug stores containing bakeries, delis, seafood, meat and floral shops, pet centers and high-quality fresh items inlclude organic produce. The retailer also boasts 790 convenience stores, 344 jewelry stores, and 1,141 supermarket fuel centers.

Recent moves by the company have made it quite the desirable option. Management introduced an ambitious program to open more Kroger locations while also launching discount stores and restaurants.

Recent quarterly financial results have been impressive, the article reports, and Kroger's "Customer 1st Strategy" is continuing to boost customer loyalty as well as same supermarket sales while increasing market share.

Kroger shares are undervalued at 11.6 times current earnings per share and with a dividend yield of 2.3%. J. Royden Ward predicts that in 2013, shares will likely advance to $35.35.
