Michael Boskovich of Boskovich Family Farms Discusses Romaine and Celery Markets

OXNARD, CA - Seeking opportunities to maximize produce department sales? You may just find them on this page. With strong markets currently being reported for the Romaine and celery categories, I recently tapped the expertise of Michael Boskovich, Organic Sales, who shared some details regarding Boskovich Family Farms’ Romaine and celery production.

Michael Boskovich, Organic Sales, Boskovich Family Farms“The market for Romaine is through the roof right now, and customers are happy to get their hands on what they can at this moment, which we make sure is a fresh, top-quality product,” shares Michael. “Our season has just begun in Oxnard, California, and our quality is looking great. We are excited to kick off the season as Romaine is in such high demand right now. Our volume is on track with our planting schedule of about 2,000 cases per week. We will start our Romaine hearts in about a month as well as with that production coming out of Mexico.”

As Boskovich Family Farms notes, pricing for the Romaine category is currently in the $44.95–$55.95 range. To maximize potential for the category, the company recommends having a good rotation on the shelf and avoiding letting the product sit on shelves for longer than a few days.

It is great to position celery with other items that are common during the holiday months like radishes, beets, and spinach

Similar to the Romaine category, celery is currently looking good in terms of quality, with strong volumes in the market and pricing currently falling in the $8.95–$15.95 range.

“It is great to position celery with other items that are common during the holiday months like radishes, beets, and spinach,” Michael advises. “And it's always a great idea to give your products a daily refresh so the best of what is available is visible to the customer.”
