Mushroom Council® Spotlights Mushrooms at Hot Luck Barbecue Festival
AUSTIN, TX - Is anyone else feeling hungry? Because the news that follows is likely to make your belly rumble. The Mushroom Council® recently took to the Hot Luck barbecue festival to celebrate the kick-off of grilling season with mushrooms at the center of the plate.
On Saturday, May 27, the Mushroom Council team served grilled lion’s mane mushroom “steak,” black pearl oyster mushroom “poke,” portabella shawarma tacos, and BBQ oyster mushroom “burnt ends” to 2,500 hungry barbecue enthusiasts. Hungry yet?
In partnership with Wicked Kitchen, the Mushroom Council presented the “Shroom House,” a mushroom-themed sampling station with the feel of a classic Texas steakhouse with a plant-based focus on mushrooms. A press release noted that this event highlighted mushrooms’ great flavor on the grill, meaty texture, and how their inherent umami flavor fits comfortably alongside anyone’s grill.
Held throughout downtown Austin, Texas, Hot Luck is an annual food and music festival bringing together culinary innovators serving their creations to more than 12,000 barbecue fans. James Beard award-winning chef Aaron Franklin—owner of Austin’s world-famous Franklin Barbecue—is among the event’s co-founders.
