Peter Shore Details Calavo Growers' Avocado Season for Summer Promotions
SANTA PAULA, CA - The avocado season is upon us, and there are recipes just waiting to be made. Warmer weather and breaks from school bring more opportunities for fresh promotions, and avocados are a prime ingredient to take advantage of this summer. I got in touch with Peter Shore, Vice President of Product Management for Calavo Grown Sales, to get an inside look at the season.
“We had a good start in our California production this year. Our avocados all have excellent quality and flavor, and they’re ripening beautifully,” Peter says. “With the record rainfall we had throughout California, our tree health is optimal.”
Coinciding with Calavo Grower’s California production is Mexico, which also saw an exceptional year.
“Our Mexican harvest will be wrapping up on June 30, and we’re quite pleased with that as well,” continues Peter. “We’re seeing consistent supply and quality along with favorable market conditions. And just as we’re ending in Mexico, we should start getting avocados in from Peru as well; our Peruvian production is just beginning to arrive Stateside.”
Overall, the volume outlook for Calavo’s avocados should carry us through the summer with supplies from California, Mexico, and Peru. Peter expects a steady market with promotional supplies this season. And if my social feeds are any indication, there will be a steady stream of avocado consumers itching to get their hands on some fresh produce all summer long.
