Trader Joe's to Open a New Distribution Center in Florida's Daytona Beach Crossroads
Trader Joe’s is expanding in Florida with a new distribution center in Daytona Beach. Volusia County approved the project which will situate the new center near the intersection of interstates 95 and 4 in Daytona, an ideal spot that touts a crossroads in Florida. County Chairman Jason Davis was quoted by FOX 35 as noting that their was a simple reason why the Council was enthusiastic in the unanimous vote. "This is a job maker. This is a job creator."
The specialty retailer is also constructing it's first Central Florida store in Winter Park as part of the $22 million Lakeside Winter Park project expected to open later this year.
The state and Volusia presented an incentive package worth more than $4.6 million. Funds will be used to build new roads and expand existing roads leading into the new Trader Joe’s distribution center. The article reports that a new distribution center most likely signifies more stores.
"This is a distribution center. So if they put a Trader Joe's in Osceola County, it's coming out of our warehouse. If they put it in Jacksonville, it's coming out of that warehouse," Davis said.
As of February 2014, there were only 15 states without Trader Joe’s locations, according to The Daily Meal: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.
