Wegmans Innovative Tomato Party

Wegmans is hosting its Local Tomato Harvest celebration on Friday August 10 from 4-8pm and Saturday August 11 from 11am-5pm, giving customers the opportunity to taste late-summer homegrown tomatoes at their best.
Tasting stations will include Peppadew, Tomato and Hummus Naan Pizza; Caprese Salad with Pine Nuts & Dressing; and many more. “Passports” will be distributed at the store’s entrance, mapping out stations and offering tomato tips and recipes for dishes being sampled.
Tomatoes are also gaining popularity for their health benefits, something that Wegmans is very aware of. Jane Andrews MS, RD, Wegmans Nutrition and Produce Labeling Manager, states, “Our ‘Half-Plate Healthy’ guideline can help people balance foods to feel their best. Filling half your plate with vegetables and fruits makes it easier to stay at a healthy weight, have better blood pressure readings, and reduce the risk of certain health problems.”
