Western Growers' Dave Puglia Discusses Affordable and Secure Food Act

IRVINE, CA - Just over a week ago, we reported on multiple industry associations applauding the introduction of the Affordable and Secure Food Act. As Western Growers weighed in on the current situation, President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Pulia got with ANUK to share some exclusive insights. Following news that the Affordable and Secure Food Act will not be included in the omnibus spending bill, Western Growers has issued an additional statement to the industry.

Dave Puglia, President and Chief Executive Officer, Western Growers“The Senate has missed another crucial opportunity to resolve the farm labor and food production crisis facing this country,” Puglia shared in the statement. “Since 2015, our dependence on imported fruits and vegetables has increased by more than 50 percent and is on track to exceed another 12 percent this year. Without a stable, legal agricultural workforce, our nation will become increasingly dependent on imported food.”

Puglia continued, applauding the efforts of those who have worked to uncover necessary solutions to the industry’s current farm labor challenges.
