Westfalia Fruit Group Prepares for Fruit Attraction 2022

MADRID, SPAIN - This year’s Fruit Attraction 2022 continues to be an event the industry won’t miss out on. Leading names are being drawn to Madrid, Spain, from October 4–6, and Westfalia Fruit Group will be taking the innovative stage.

Westfalia recently announced it will be showcasing four pioneering projects that have taken sustainable agriculture to the next level. The projects pertain to:

  • Water conservation
  • Pest Control
  • Portugal conservation
  • A new facility in France

The company revealed it will be presenting its developments in water conservation plans. As the company operates in various types of climates with different water conditions, the company is continuously building on its water strategy to decrease usage by 50 percent by 2030. Water plans already developed for South Africa, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Portugal are reporting on water-related key performance indicators to track the progress of water savings and the success of the interventions chosen.

At Fruit Attraction 2022, Westfalia Fruit announced that it will be showcasing four innovative projects focused on water conservation, pest control, Portugal conservation, and its new facility in France

Regulations for pesticide use continue to tighten around the world, especially as shoppers are demanding cleaner produce. Westfalia is turning to biological control methods as a more sustainable way of controlling pests. In projects in Chile and Colombia, Westfalia is rearing five different beetle and insect predators for the control of White and Red scale, mites, aphids, and mealybugs among others in citrus, avocados, and blueberries.

Another pioneering project is underway in Portugal where Westfalia’s conservation work is protecting a highly biodiverse habitat and the endemic species found within it. Its Westfalia Fruit France division also announced the construction of its new facility in Graveson, in the Provence area of Southern France.

This new state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to be operational in November 2022 and will include avocado storage, ripening rooms, and packing capability to support Westfalia’s pan-European operations.
