California Giant's 55th Annual BBQ Fundraiser is a Success
It’s another year of success for California Giant Berry Farms’ 55th Annual Spring Lamb Barbecue in Watsonville, California. Over 750 men and two women attended the event, held on May 17 at the Crosetti Ranch. The day featured lamb barbecued several different ways on four pits and a horseshoe tournament that included over 60 teams on the historical expansive property surrounded by oak trees, according to a press release.
The event continues to benefit the American Cancer Society ever since it was first founded in 1959 by John Moncovich, the father of Bill Moncovich, CEO and partner in California Giant. Since its inception, the event has raised over $1 million for the association. This year’s event raised $75,000.

In 2008, the American Cancer Society acknowledged the longevity of the event and the cumulative contribution of over $1 million, praising Bill Moncovich and the organizing committee for hosting the oldest, consecutively held fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in the U.S. This accomplishment was also recognized by Congressman Sam Farr at the 50th anniversary.
The lion’s share of the proceeds from the Spring Lamb each year are donated to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, and additional funds are shared with the Jacob’s Heart Foundation, a local organization that supports families of children with cancer.
Thank you for this wonderful event, California Giant, and your continuing support!
