Carrie Briones and Anthony Innocenti Discuss LIV Organic Produce's Recent Investments, Organic Citrus Prowess, and More
OCEANSIDE, CA - Organic and citrus. I would love to call them buzz words, but they are so much more impactful than that. Combined, they are a sales-driving category, a force to be reckoned with, and a vibrant example of the richness and quality that can occupy a produce department year-round. As we wrap up January, I sat down with LIV Organic Produce to talk about the outlook for its domestic program and how the company is changing the organic citrus sector during winter 2021.
“We have made strategic investments this past year to ensure our quality, consistency, and customer service are elements to be rivaled in the organic citrus category,” Carrie Briones, Head of Sales and Grower Relations, shares with me. “Currently, the LIV Organic team is packing out of our new facility in Oceanside, California, which gives us an advantage over our competitors. We are able to take our growers’ fruit straight from the field to the packinghouse to market in a very short amount of time.”
LIV Organic offers a year-round supply of citrus, which is one of the company’s many strengths. Currently, LIV Organic’s program is in peak season on Minneolas out of California’s Coachella Valley and transitioning to local San Diego, California, lemons next week.
“Peak season for Minneolas signifies great color and flavor, making now a great time of year to have our fruit on retail shelves,” Co-Founder Anthony Innocenti says. “Our value begins with the fruit we deliver and extends through our team, our investments, and our tailored organic programs. Also in the mix for LIV Organic are Meyers lemons, Navel oranges, and Star Ruby grapefruit. Tango mandarins will also be available in the next few weeks.
“We have lots of options on packaging including multiple bulk sizes as well as multiple weight options on bags. We are able to be flexible to the demands of the retailer when packing to their needed specs,” Carrie expresses.
As the LIV Organic team shares, demand has been good and with promotional volumes available on all items at certain times depending on the crop. Lighter crops creating higher sales prices along with good demand have allowed LIV Organic to provide stronger returns to its growers this year over last year.
“An increasing grower base is allowing us to keep all demand consistently filled and our retail partners primed for success,” Carrie concludes.
