Costco's reported net sales for December rose twelve percent from $10.05 billion during the similar period in 2011 to $11.21 billion in 2012. The timing of the New Year’s holiday caused an extra day to be included in this year’s five week period, positively increasing sales by approximately 2%, according to a press release.

The company reported that net sales for the first seventeen weeks of its fiscal year ended December 30, 2012 rose nine percent from $31.68 billion during the similar period in 2011 to $34.42 billion.
