FICO Eataly World Celebrates Italian Food from Field to Fork

BOLOGNA, ITALY - After about two years of describing Eataly as a Disneyland for foodies, I can now report that the concept is bringing something of a food-centric city in the latter half of 2017.

Destined for Bologna, Italy, FICO Eataly World is said to be a collection of “the best of Italian food, wine, and agricultural traditions from across the country.”

Tiziana Primori, CEO, Eataly

“Our vision for FICO Eataly World is an immense and joyous place where everyone can discover Italy’s great heritage,” said Eataly CEO Tiziana Primori in a press release. “It’s a real agricultural, culinary, and educational park that aims to further connect the world through food from the various regions of Italy.”

Covering 20 acres, Eataly World promises an open that includes:

  • More than 2,000 participating companies
  • 3,000 new jobs
  • 6 million expected visitors
  • 500+ events throughout the year at a 43,500-square-foot space dedicated to culinary and agricultural education
  • 10 classrooms
  • Two miles of educational paths
  • Six multimedia areas dedicated to agribusiness world

40 shops will create some of Italy’s finest artisanal products, offering an experience where guests can “Eat, Shop, and Learn” about Italian culture in the tastiest of ways. According to the company, each season is planned to cultivate typical Italian crops from farms and pastures to process the raw ingredients. 2.5 acres of markets and bottegas will also sell the best of Italian food, drink, and beyond.

This is just a small insight of what will make up the entire FICO Eataly World project, which the team said will be created “with respect for the land” top of mind.

Besides key partners and leaders that have helped bring the Eataly dream to life, like Founder Oscar Farinetti and Tiziana Primori of the cooperative world, others thanked for bringing the world into fruition are the city of Bologna with Mayor Virgnio Merola, and the region of Emilia-Romagna with Governor Stefano Bonaccini.

With a love for both Italian food and ag education, I can’t wait for this massive culinary project to make its debut.
