Heritage Grocers Group, Parent of Cardenas Markets, Acquires El Rancho Supermercado



GARLAND, TX - Acquisition news came through our news desk recently regarding Heritage Grocers Group, which operates banners like Cardenas Markets. The parent company recently acquired El Rancho Supermercado, adding its 28 stores to its portfolio. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

“The team at El Rancho Supermercado has built a strong brand and long-standing relationship with its customers, and by leveraging our collective strengths, El Rancho Supermercado can deliver even greater value,” Heritage Grocers Group said in an emailed statement.

The acquisition of El Rancho Supermercado aligns with Heritage’s growth strategy to build a portfolio of companies, said the statement from Heritage. The Dallas Morning News noted Heritage has been buying regional Hispanic-focused grocery chains. Cardenas is the largest of the chains, with 57 stores. Others are Tony’s Fresh Market and Los Altos Ranch Market.

Eighteen of El Rancho Supermercado’s stores are in Dallas-Fort Worth, with locations in Austin and Houston and one in Liberal, Kansas.

Heritage Grocers Group noted El Rancho would continue to operate its 28 stores under its own banner with its employees.
