Idaho Potato Commission's 2012 Potato Lover's Month Retail Display Contest Results
Eagle, ID
This year’s Idaho Potato Commission Potato Lover's Month Retail Display Contest raked in the numbers with more than 2,300 entries in its 21st year. The contest awarded over $150,000 in cash and prizes and boasted a first place winner that created its “Fuel Up with the World Famous Idaho® Potatoes” display for the contest. The display featured a giant potato truck getting fueled up by Mrs. Dash and Molly McButter “gas pumps,” taking the prize among stores with 1-5 cash registers, according to a press release.
More first place winners offered creative displays including Sweetbay Supermarket in Spring Hill, Florida for the 6-9 cash registers category and Publix at Sabal Palm Plaza in Fort Pierce, Florida for the 10+ registers category. Both highlighted the healthy role of Idaho® potatoes for their winning retail displays.
Seth Pemsler, Vice President, Retail/International, IPC, stated, “It’s a win-win situation for retailers when they enter the contest.” Mr. Pemsler, continues, “During what is traditionally a slow month, they can give Idaho® potato sales a big boost with a creative, attention-getting retail display. And retailers have a chance to win substantial cash prizes, including a matching cash prize for the store’s category manager.”
