Jay Pack, former owner and CEO of Standard Fruit & Vegetable Co., Inc, received PMA’s Robert L. Carey Leadership Award. A team of five past PMA chairmen selected Pack in recognition of his outstanding leadership and an uncommon commitment to PMA and the produce industry, according to a press release.

“The award is named in honor of Bob Carey, who led the association for 38 years until 1996. Bob provided the leadership and vision that allowed this organization to grow from near bankruptcy and less than 100 members, to the strong, vibrant, supply chain-wide organization it is today,” said Bill Schuler, President and CEO, Castellini Group of Companies, a member of the nominating committee who presented Pack with the award.

Jay and Ruthie Pack were integral partners in the building of the Pack Family Career Pathways student-attraction program, which celebrated its 10th anniversary at Fresh Summit this year. To date, a total of 364 students have gone through the program at Fresh Summit, nearly half of whom started their careers in the produce industry.

“Bob is why I’m here today,” said Pack. “His inspirational leadership and charismatic personality were my first impression of PMA, and set the hook for getting involed.”

Congratulations, Jay, for winning this prestigious award!
