The Nunes Company Prepares for Transition; Doug Classen and John Amaral Comment

SALINAS, CA - Throwing it back to when Game of Thrones was at its peak, winter is coming, and the produce industry is preparing for temperature changes in the Northern Hemisphere. As the weather starts to cool off here in California, the Nunes Company is moving into its transition, preparing to make the jump to the desert in the coming weeks.

Doug Classen, Vice President of Sales, The Nunes Company“We will be transitioning our crops to Huron, California, and then to Yuma, Arizona, with iceberg lettuce expected to start in the California region on Monday, October 17,” explains Doug Classen, Vice President of Sales.

Throughout the transition process, The Nunes Company will move its crops down the length of California before entering Arizona.

John Amaral, Sales Manager, The Nunes Company“We will be in Huron for approximately 3–4 weeks, with the transition to Yuma around the second week of November,” adds John Amaral, Sales Manager. “Celery will start in Oxnard, California, in mid-November. All other conventional and organic items will transition to Yuma around the first of November, with the transition period wrapping up by the start of December.”

The Nunes Company will transition all of its conventional and organic items out of Salinas, California. However, the grower anticipates that the region will be a challenge up until the end due to extreme weather and disease that hit in September and the start of October. The supplier hopes to avoid any other weather challenges as the move to Yuma approaches.
