Progreso Produce Welcomes Avocados from Peru into its Import Mix
Boerne, TX
Progreso Produce is expanding their product mix to include avocadoes from Peru. The company is a leading grower/shipper of Texas/Mexico imports and offers a year-round Mexican avocado program. The introduction of Peruvian avocadoes to the mix fills a short 12-week market window and compliments their Mexican program.
Curtis DeBerry, President of Progreso Produce commented, “The opportunity to make Peruvian avocadoes available to our customers allows us to offer a firmer fruit during the time of year when the Mexican avocado crop is very ripe. For some customers, ripe fruit poses receiving challenges. Peruvian fruit gives our customers a choice during this quality sensitive time.” Progreso will begin importing Peruvian avocadoes through the Port of Houston during the week of June 25th. The product will be available in 25-pound cartons of 48 count sizes and larger under the Southern Exposure brand. Mexican avocadoes will also be available.
Progreso also offers year-round onion and watermelon programs sourcing from all major growing regions in the US and Mexico. The company continues to work on expanding its mango, strawberry, blueberry, and blackberry business and has achieved nearly year-round availability of blueberries and blackberries.
