Progressive Produce Division's Keystone Fruit Marketing to Soon Start Packing Walla Walla Sweet Onions; M. Andrea Scroggs and Dan Borer Comment
GREENCASTLE, PA - From sophisticated upscale foodservice menus to classic homestyle backyard barbeques, onions play a staple role in the food world. Giving consumers another variety to savor, Keystone Produce, a division of Progressive Produce, has announced that it will begin packing its Walla Walla River Sweet Onions near June 15, running until the third week of August.
“Walla Walla Sweet Onions are known for their incredibly sweet and mild flavor, making them the perfect addition to everyone’s favorite summertime foods. They’re great for burgers, sausage, sandwiches, salads, and grilling,” said M. Andrea Scroggs, Sales and Marketing Manager. “Cross merchandising in the meat department, or with tomatoes, salads, peppers, and squash, helps increase sales.”
With a strong following and great recognition amongst consumers, retailers have plenty of opportunities to capture sales with the variety this season. According to a press release, buyers can also count on strong yields to meet demand and maximize shopper dollars in the short summertime window that the onions are available.
“We had a mild winter and excellent growing conditions, so we expect a bigger crop than 2020 with good yields,” said Dan Borer, Sales Manager.
To ramp up excitement around the variety, the company has also rolled out newly rebranded packaging to reflect the evolution of Keystone Produce. Featuring rich, bold colors and a fresh take on the elements of the original logo, the recognizable, yet refreshed packaging will draw consumers in and have them loading up their baskets.
Complementing the lush colors of the grower’s new packaging, Keystone will also be offering its Walla Walla Rosé Sweet Onions, with the beautiful coloring of red onions with the sweetness of a traditional sweet onion. The variety will also only be available in the summer, beginning July and lasting through August.
