SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY, CA - The San Joaquin Valley is expected to see a prolonged period of above-normal heat as a strong high-pressure system settles over California, according to Weather Mission. Daytime highs will climb from around 100 degrees Wednesday into the 104-107 degree range by Friday, with those conditions expected to persist through the weekend. Overnight lows will also trend warmer, rising from the mid-60s to the upper 60s and mid-70s.

Afternoon northwesterly winds will gust between 20 and 25 mph across the northern valley through Friday, while lighter northwesterly winds are forecast farther south. No rainfall is expected across the valley during the next five days, despite the potential for monsoonal moisture to approach California during the Aug. 8-9 weekend.

Looking farther ahead, Weather Mission forecasts the unusually strong ridge of high pressure to remain in place through the first week of August, keeping temperatures above seasonal averages while diverting monsoon activity east of the state. Some modest cooling is possible during the second week of August, though temperatures are expected to remain above normal.
