Tops Supermarkets is taking advantage of the social media craze with a new promotion that offers consumers a discount on fresh mangos. Teaming up with the National Mango Board, the retailer is using Twitter to offer mango lovers an in-store coupon, sure to increase fresh mango consumption and tap into the popularity of fresh produce and the growing trends for a healthier lifestyle.

Shoppers will receive 50 cents off of one mango as well as National Mango Board tips on slicing and eating the tropical fruit when they follow the link through the Tops' mango promotion via Twitter.

Tops is also promoting fresh fruits and veggies with its Produce Extravaganza. For every combination of 10 produce items a consumer buys, they will receive an 11th participating produce item for free. "Buy 10 for $10 and get the 11th free," promotional materials state.

The retailer recently incentivized consumers to make Tops their salad destination with a Fresh Express Salad coupon. New followers for Tops Produce on Twitter received a direct message from Tops with a link to their two-dollar coupon for the Fresh Express product. Tops has also partnered with Foxy Produce for their Foxy Dishes up Something Fresh contest. This photo competition had consumers send in photos of dishes using at least one Foxy Produce product and submit it on the company’s Facebook page. The winners of the contest will receive Tops gift cards to use in store.

The mango promotion with the National Mango Board, Produce Extravaganza, the Fresh Express coupon and Foxy Produce contest are just some of the ways this retailer is using the social media phenomenon to its advantage.
