TOPEKA, KS - It is no shocker to say that Walmart continues to grow—that pretty much goes without saying. However, it seems as though the retailer is making a significant investment in its supply chain operations. Just this year, Walmart opened new facilities in California and Canada, and converted another warehouse in Maryland. The next target of the company’s growth is Topeka, Kansas, where it announced plans for a $200 million facility in the city.

The new 1.8-million-square-foot facility is well-placed in the centralized city of Topeka, making the new warehouse a strategic move for Walmart’s distribution footprint. This facility will be the retailer’s largest in the state, and features a product stacking height of 35 feet. According to cjonline.com, Walmart already maintains over 1.8 million square feet of space spread across three of its existing Kansas facilities in Edgerton, Kansas City, and Ottawa.

The new facility will also benefit the local community as well, generating an estimated 300 jobs over the next five years. The news source estimates that the project is expected to have an economic impact of $631 million over the course of the next decade.
