West Texas Albertsons Stores to be Realigned Under the United Family
Eight West Texas Albertsons stores are being realigned under The United Family as part of a strategic move to capitalize on operational synergies. These stores are located in Midland (3), Odessa (3), San Angelo, and Abilene and will be served by United’s distribution center in Lubbock. All eight stores will retain their Albertsons identity and will operate under the Albertsons Market name. Store management at all locations will remain the same and all team members will retain their positions, according to a press release.
Robert Taylor, the President of United Supermarkets and Bob Miller, CEO of Albertsons, have been looking for ways to continue maximizing efficiencies since the announcement of Albertsons’ $385 million acquisition of United Supermarkets last December and see this realignment as a great opportunity to enhance the brand.
In a letter released to United Supermarkets partners, the company’s executive team stated, “We are extremely excited about this move as it will strengthen both the Albertsons and the United brand in the near and long term.”
"This move makes great business sense," said Taylor. "With our Lubbock-based distribution center within 150-200 miles of these cities, we can serve these eight stores more efficiently and most effectively, which translates into greater quality on the shelves for our guests."
The transition is expected to be complete by July 1. It will be interesting to see what other investments these two supermarket giants will make. For now, stay tuned to AndNowUKnow as we continue our coverage on United and Albertsons’ merger.
