MANITOBA, CANADA - It is with a sad heart that we report on the passing of David Whitmore. Before he retired in December 2022, Whitmore was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Peak of the Market. He was with the company for 28 years.

As anyone who knew Whitmore would know, he was one of those very few people that one meets in a lifetime that makes you a better person just by knowing them. His easy-going, caring, and whimsical nature radiated from every pore of his body, leaving everyone and anyone who encountered him with a feeling of worth, purpose, and meaning. It wasn’t something he learned, it was his very essence that he imparted first and foremost to his family, but also to friends, colleagues, and literally everyone he met.

Following his rural upbringing in Dauphin, Manitoba, Whitmore headed off to Brandon, where he gained the credentials for applying his talent of making connections with people in the field of business and marketing. Eventually, that brought him to Winnipeg where he landed his first job as an assistant manager at Kmart and, where fate would have it, he met the love of his life, Pat. The two were inseparable from that point on, enjoying every moment together. It wasn’t long before he proposed to Pat and embarked on the most valued stage of his life, which was focused on marriage and establishing his family. Two sons, Kevin and Kurtis, and several significant roles in retail management later, Whitmore found himself at Peak of the Market through connections with his longtime friend where he flourished in his career. He eventually received a promotion to the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing, where he worked until his retirement in December 2022.

Throughout Whitmore’s 28 years working at Peak of the Market, he was able to take Pat along on many of his business trips to trade shows all over Canada and the USA. Whether it would be setting up the booths at trade shows or going for a vacation somewhere hot, they always had a great time and lots of laughs together.

Aside from work, he loved spending time with family, friends, and his beloved Yorkie Buddy and helping anyone whenever he could. He was also what could aptly be called a candy connoisseur; it was a rare event to see him without some form of candy either in his grasp or being eaten, with jujubes and gummy bears being his favorite and Twizzlers coming in a close second.

The family would like to thank all the first responders, medical staff, and all the nurses on 5AWest at St. Boniface Hospital who cared for Whitmore, especially Shannon for her compassion towards his family.

A Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at Thomson Funeral Home, and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 24, at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, with final viewing starting at 9:30 a.m.

Peak of the Market also honored Whitmore with a recent dedication.
