BATAVIA, IL - Although factors like inflation have caused a hold-up in growth for some companies, Aldi is pushing forward full steam ahead by adding 120 new stores this year. With this recent announcement, the retailer revealed that it will have over 2,400 locations nationwide by the end of 2023.

“While inflation is undoubtedly driving unprecedented demand for affordable groceries, we know that once customers experience the Aldi difference, they keep shopping with us, even when the economy improves,” said Jason Hart, Chief Executive Officer, Aldi U.S. “Our growth is led by our customers, and they continue to want more Aldi locations coast-to-coast.”

This expansion builds off of the grocer’s growth in 2022, during which Aldi opened and remodeled 139 stores and expanded its customer base by 9.4 million, according to a release. With this expansion, the retailer drove double-digit growth year-over-year.

In 2023, Aldi is on track to continue this momentum, already opening 35 new stores in the first quarter and welcoming 5.3 million new shoppers to its locations as of April 2023.

The upcoming openings will span the United States, including the rapidly growing Southeast region, where Aldi recently opened its 26^th regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley, Alabama. This year, the chain will add locations in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana, which are new markets for the grocer.

Aldi will also be enhancing new and existing stores with eco-friendly features, including installing rooftop solar panels and eliminating plastic shopping bags. The retailer will also implement environmentally friendly refrigerants to reduce carbon emissions.

As part of this national expansion, Aldi will add nearly 2,000 new employees to support the additional store count.
