SACRAMENTO, CA - The ANUK team isn’t interested in whether you’ve been naughty or nice this year—although we sincerely hope you’ve been nice! No, we’re all about which Christmas songs match up with your favorite holiday fruit or veg! Do you find yourself dancing to “Mele Kalikimaka” or belting out “O Holy Night”? Well, read on, dear produce folks, to see what your favorite Christmas tune says about you!

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” - Onions

Do you find yourself saying “What’s in this drink?” when you see a martini olive instead of an onion? Do you snack on onions like they were freshly picked apples? Is it impossible for you to consider a holiday menu without grilled/roasted onions adorning a plate à la the more traditional carrot? Then, my friend, "Baby, It’s Cold Outside" is your Christmas song of choice. You’re not one to fuss over Christmas decor or stress over the right gift. You’re as cool as an…onion? And you wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Let it Snow!” - Pears

“Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but these pears sure are delightful,” is the apprised lyric for all of you pear lovers—although you aren’t strangers to the snow. In fact, winter is your favorite time of year, since it heralds peak pear season. Doesn’t matter if it’s four-below outside; if you have a pear companion, those wintry blues are never close at hand. If things go pear-shaped—such as being snowed in at Christmas or running out of eggnog—those who love the pear are optimistic. We’re certain that you go all out for decorations during the holidays, all the way down to wrapping your favorite fruit in tinsel.

“My Two Front Teeth” - Apples

Neither an iPhone 11 Pro, a Tesla Cybertruck, nor a break from your relatives were at the top of the Christmas wish list you sent to the North Pole this year—because all you want for Christmas is your two front teeth, gee if you could only have your two front teeth! (Second on your list was the ability to whistle!) If you find yourself singing the quirky classic come December, then we'd bet some serious holiday cash you've relied on the ol' apple trick to lose a few teeth back in your childhood days, and as such have a hankering for the crunchy, munchy stocking stuffer as soon as Jack Frost begins nipping at your nose.

“O Holy Night” - Brussels Sprouts

Fall on your knees and hear the Brussels sprouts sizzling in the oven! A flair for the dramatics is strong with this one (you)—why else would you pick the Christmas song with the widest vocal range? That high note, honey? You hit it. Every. Single. Time. You know what else you hit? The high-fives of everyone at your annual holiday party because the Brussels sprouts you prepare each and every year are “O night divine”! Brussels sprouts are the classiest holiday veg, and they happen to be your absolute, hands-down favorite, which makes you one classy caroler. If “O Holy Night” be the Brussels sprouts of Christmas, play on!

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” - Cranberries

We at ANUK all agreed that Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a Christmas classic. Rudolph has more than earned a name for himself as the OG underdog, not to mention the glowing, red orb at the tip of his snout. If reindeer games and sleigh rides make you shout with glee this time of year, you most likely go crazy for cranberries, too. Be it in a sauce, bread, or floating atop libations, nothing says “Christmas” like cranberries. So, on this foggy Christmas Eve, all you Rudolph heads best be stepping to the cranberry source!

“White Christmas” - Potatoes

Are you dreaming of a White Christmas just like the ones you used to know? Even if the treetops don’t glisten and you can’t look upon a blanket of snow outside, we know there are some die-hard White Christmas fans out there. Without the plush, white surroundings of an ideal Christmas morning, we can only assume that the next best thing is a hefty bowl of creamy mashed potatoes. Hence, your favorite vegetable must be the potato! Forget the snow, so long as you’ve got potatoes on hand, this holiday is sure to be merry and bright.

“Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” - Carrots

When you bring an orange dish to the holiday dinner table, is it sweet potatoes? Close, but also not at all close, because surprise! It’s carrots! Flipping the script is what you do best, and a kooky addition to the spread deserves an equally quirky jingle. Sweetness with a crunch is what awaits carrot-eaters, so the ballad of an eggnog-tipsy grandma falling victim to festive hooves resonates as a holiday classic with a bit of an edge. As Santa slinks away from the scene of the crime, diners slink towards the tray of carrots, and between mouthfuls they stop and say, “hold on, who got run over by a what?!” But all in good fun, of course.

“Mele Kalikimaka” - Citrus

If you long for the land where palm trees sway, then a pop of citrus on the banquet table is inevitably what you crave. Winter doesn’t have to be white, it can be green and bright—and also yellow, orange, and more! A taste for the tropics, for both the tongue and the ears, marks a departure from the norm and a willingness to be bold. When belting out a hearty round of "Mele Kalikimaka," citrus flavors sweeten the pot and jumpstart the taste buds for an experience that truly ‘broke da mouth,’ as we say in the islands.

“You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” - Green Bean

Let’s face it, green beans are the adult vegetable much like how The Grinch is an adult movie. One can only appreciate the flavors and uses of green beans when they are older. The lush green color after being sauteed with garlic or baked in the classic green bean casserole topped with fried onions are party favorites. It’s also the visage of a favorite Christmas character: the Grinch. Much like how one can only enjoy green beans as an adult, so too can you only appreciate the Grinch once you’ve seen some years. How can you not liken one to the other? Either through Jim Carrey’s devious antics or Benedict Cumberbatch’s animated ways, the movies are as timeless as the green bean.

“Jingle Bell Rock” - Squash

The squash is the star of the show, breaking out onto the table with pies, bakes, and soups galore. What was once viewed as mere decoration has now taken center stage to bring holiday lovers dancin’ and prancin’ in the living room square. The unsuspecting veg queen has the versatility to surprise and enamore any crowd, much like the classic with a twist, "Jingle Bell Rock." If you find yourself humming along with a sway in your hips, best make some room for your fave veg this year.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!
