Agriculture officials have recently reported an Asian citrus psyllid has been found in Tulare County.

Joel Nelsen, President of California Citrus Mutual tells AndNowUKnow, the psyllid was found last week in a trap and much of what the company can do now, is to simply wait.

“What we are doing is trying to identify suitable cleaning stations and make sure we will have the capability to clean the fruit before going into packing houses, if needed.”

Tulare County must wait for governmental officials to finish a complete survey of the county to determine if any parts need to be quarantined. If crops have been affected by the Asian citrus psyllid, fruits will be mandated to packing houses.

Nelsen says about 50% of the surveying has been completed and the company is currently providing “educational programs for its farm workers,” ensuring its staff how to properly identify the bug.

Though it is not exactly known how the psyllid arrived in Tulare County, Nelsen says the company will know its fate, early next week.
