Bangkok Officials Uncover Heroin Hidden Within Durian Shipment

BANGKOK, THAILAND - When authorities at Bangkok, Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport opened up several boxes of specialty produce earlier this month, they were met with more than the dried durian expected to be found inside.

Officials uncovered 3.5 kilograms of heroin hidden inside the shipment, which was bound for Taiwan.

According to the Thaiger, the drug bust occurred when officials smelled something fishy around four cases of dried durian originating from Cambodia and a water heater heading for an unknown address in Taiwan.

In addition to the 3.5 kilograms discovered among the boxes of dried durian, authorities also seized 10 bricks of heroin weighing a total of 3.7 kilograms, resulting in a 7.2-kilogram bust worth $560,000.

We applaud the officials who work to protect fresh produce from drug smuggling ploys like this one.
