CHANDLER, AZ - If this week had a theme, it would be new leaders and promotions, and Bashas’ Family of Stores got the memo. The grocer recently announced that it has promoted Steve Mayer to Chief Operating Officer of its more than 110 locations across Arizona and New Mexico. He will also represent Bashas’ on The Raley’s Companies Executive Leadership Team as a member of Bashas’ Executive Committee.

Steve Mayer, Chief Operating Officer, Bashas' Family of Stores In this new position, Mayer will expand upon his previous leadership role as Senior Vice President of Marketing, Merchandising, and Procurement by adding store operations to his responsibilities and taking on an increased role in the strategic daily operations of the business. According to a release, he will continue to report to Edward “Trey” Basha, President of Bashas’, a division of The Raley’s Companies.

Mayer is backed by more than three decades of grocery retail experience and has a deep understanding of merchandising, pricing strategies, store layouts, and marketing. He came to Bashas’ Family of Stores from Schnucks Markets, where he was Chief Merchant and Member of the Executive Strategy Team after serving as Group Vice President of Produce, Floral, and Deli. Mayer also served in executive roles at Meijer, Bi-Lo, Ahold USA, and Flavor 1^st.

Sharing his excitement for Mayer’s promotion, Basha commented.
