Calavo Growers Expands Mexico Avocado Program; Dionisio Ortiz, Danny Dumas, and Eloy Reyna Comment

SANTA PAULA, CA - As demand for avocados continues to climb, suppliers are expanding their operations to fill this need. Calavo Growers, which has been working with growers in Michoacán, Mexico, for the past 25 years, recently announced an expansion of this Mexican program.

Dionisio Ortiz, Vice President, Calavo de Mexico“Today, we are proud to announce that we have now expanded this partnership with our Mexican growers from Michoacán to Jalisco. This will elevate our sourcing capabilities to an even higher level, and we are poised to not only provide U.S. tables with the best quality of avocados on the market, but it will also provide opportunities to supply the international community,” commented Dionisio Ortiz, Vice President, Calavo de Mexico.

Calavo has been supplying avocados for close to 100 years, and the extended partnership furthers the company’s mission of bringing this heart-healthy fruit to market.

One aspect of the partnership is a strategically located facility that offers the tech needed to support the avocado program.

Danny Dumas, Incoming Senior Vice President and General Manager, Calavo Growers“Calavo’s state-of-the-art facility in Ciudad Guzmán is certified for exports to the United States, and with access to the largest GLOBALG.A.P. Certified acreage in Jalisco. We are well positioned to offer availability of avocados year-round with particular emphasis on programs for various holidays both in the U.S. as well as internationally,” commented Danny Dumas, who was recently appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Grown Division, which includes all aspects of avocado sales and sourcing.

This operation in Jalisco, named Avocados de Jalisco, will be led by Eloy Reyna, Vice President of Calavo de Jalisco.

Expanding its operations in Mexico, Calavo Growers is operating now in both Michoacán and Jalisco—with a new state-of-the-art facility in Jalisco to round out the move

“At Calavo, we pride ourselves in our deep grower relationships, our care for our family of employees, and our stewardship of our communities and the environment. This has been our philosophy in Mexico for the past 25 years, and we have modeled our operation in Guzmán the exact same way,” remarked Reyna, who welcomed members of the Calavo team and grower partners at Calavo’s packing facility.

We’re excited to see the new levels this partnership takes Calavo! Stay tuned to AndNowUKnow for the latest news in the industry.
