CALIFORNIA - There are still plenty of California table grapes to be picked this season, says Kathleen Nave, President at the California Table Grape Commission (CTGC). She tells me that consumers can expect a steady supply of fresh, healthy, and delicious grapes from California through the rest of the season, and I just had to know more.

Kathleen Nave, President, California Table Grape Commission“Currently, volume is projected to be down slightly from the 2021 volume of 95.2 million 19 lb boxes of grapes,” Kathleen explains, noting how Mother Nature inevitably plays a role in production. “Weather is always a challenge, no matter the time of year. However, growers have methods to protect against weather impacts and mitigate damage when needed.”

The harvest season for California table grapes began in May and will end in early December, with shipping continuing into January. About 45 percent of the volume ships after October 1, according to Kathleen. From October through the year’s end, she tells me that there are typically around 30 varieties available from California, each with its own flavor and texture.

As retailers look to promote the California table grape category for the rest of the season, the CTGC has some strategies in place that help get the job done.

“There are promotions underway nationwide and in 16 export markets. Digital promotions underway now in the United States and Canada include those with Amazon, Instacart, and Ibotta,” Kathleen relays. “The commission has also released a new series of videos called California Goodness that highlight the core industry values. Several of these videos have already been published, and more are on the way.”

There is still plenty of time to promote these delicious gems from the Golden State, and the CTGC is here to make sure everyone knows it.
