Weather has had quite an impact on this year's crop of Peruvian sweet onions with a mild winter and a hot summer bringing the overall crop yields down for the industry. While Shuman Peruvian sweet onions have been affected, the company planned and planted for an overall increase for the 2012-2013 season and has been fortunate to see an increase in imports of nearly 30 percent this season. Owner John Shuman, tells AndNowUKnow, "We currently have promotable supplies of colossals, jumbos and mediums, but the crop is trending to a smaller profile. The crop appearance and quality out of Peru is excellent this season, with some of the best imports we have ever seen."

B&W Quality Growers and its new value-added B&W Gourmet Farms brand are transitioning to its Florida farms and into their new value-added production facility. The state-of-the-art food grade facility in Fellsmere, Florida has features that include optical scanners, improved product flow, as well as integrated wash and dry systems developed specifically for delicate distinctive baby leaves. The facility also features contained cold chain loading docks. Andy Brown, Vice President of Marketing, tells AndNowUKnow, "This new facility allows B&W to continue to provide world-class quality products for consumers and our retail and foodservice partners."
