Southeastern Grocers Publishes 2022 Environmental, Social, and Governance Report; Anthony Hucker Comments



JACKSONVILLE, FL - A rising topic of conversation in the retail sector has been environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies as consumers have begun to pay more attention to the people and companies behind the products they purchase. Showing its commitment to and progress in sustainability, community engagement, and values-driven operations, Southeastern Grocers (SEG) has released its 2022 ESG report.

The ESG report is part of SEG’s dedication to transparency and accountability in all of its operations, a release stated. This annual release was designed to offer shoppers, investors, and stakeholders a comprehensive overview of the retailer’s approach to sustainability and social responsibility.

SEG’s ESG report highlights its progress in key areas that are aligned with six United Nations Sustainable Development Goals addressing hunger, health, education, inequalities, responsible consumption, production, and ocean conservation.

Some highlights from the report include:

  • SEG, together with its charitable arm the SEG Gives Foundation, donated more than $700,000 and 14 million pounds of food to help alleviate hunger
  • SEG’s Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant Program presented 30 nonprofits with funds totaling $300,000, supporting more organizations than in years prior
  • Gave nearly $2 million in support to various military, health, and local community initiatives
  • SEG is working to include an average of 30 percent post-consumer recycled material in all Own Brand packaging
  • Formed a partnership with Relocalize to pilot ice manufacturing in the world’s first autonomous micro-factory
