As December marks National Pear Month, I reached out to Superfresh Growers® to see how the team is sparking joy at retail for buyers and shoppers alike.
“We are so excited for the in-store promotions that USA Pears has scheduled out with retailers nationwide,” noted Catherine Gipe-Stewart, Communications Manager. “Superfresh Growers has good promotable pear volume to support ads this month across all of our varieties, including organics. This is an ideal time to promote both green and red Anjou pears as well as Bosc, Barlett, and Asian pears.”
Catherine imparted that pears are impulse buys and they’re easy to cross merchandise across departments.
“You can do this with cheese and charcuterie board makings. Pears also make great additions to roasts, since they sweeten and soften the meat. Retailers can also cross merchandise with baking spices and baking ingredients to help inspire shoppers. Recipe cards are ideal for cooking inspiration, as well!” Catherine remarked.
It’s especially important to give shoppers a chance to level up their holiday game, as Pinterest searches regarding the holidays are spiking.
“Shoppers are looking to go big for the holiday season,” Catherine explained. “Pears fit well into this with holiday focused recipes. Consumers are also looking for beauty and ways to impress their friends and family. Projects that range from simple, such as pear table decorating, to complicated, like pear, cheese, and nut boards will be popular as we continue in the holiday season. Cheese, nuts, jams, dips, and dessert wines are other great complementary items to cross promote with pears.”
