RESTON, VA - Over the last couple of years, the grocery retail sector has experienced an arms race of sorts centered around technology and innovation. Now, Walmart could be peeling out ahead of its competitors by expanding the brick-and-mortar footprint of its technology arm, Walmart Labs.

According to a report by the Washington Business Journal, Walmart Labs is establishing a new technology center in Reston, Virginia. To do so, the retailer is leasing a 162,300-square-foot building, with renovations underway to transform the space into what Walmart Labs requires.

The new facility joins another in Reston, helping Walmart build out its status as a retail tech hub that its grocery rivals should be sure to keep an arm—I mean, eye—on.

The innovations that Walmart Labs will concoct within the walls of its new facility were not disclosed to the news source, however, ANUK is betting on more first-ever grocery milestones, especially in the digital and e-commerce space, to soon be passed once more by this retail behemoth.
