LEHIGH VALLEY, PA - Weis Markets is woking on ensuring one of its top-performing markets continues to receive top-quality operations. In order to make this a reality, the grocer has invested tens of millions into renovating two stores in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, a move that its CEO believes is strategically valuable to its operations overall.

Jonathan Weis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Weis Markets“I would say these two stores will be as nice as any stores in our chain," said Chairman and CEO Jonathan Weis in a statement to news source The Morning Call. “They will be slightly tailored, each to its own neighborhood. We intend that they will be meaningful and that the products and services we put there will sell and won’t go wide of the mark, that they’ll be embraced. It’ll be as nice as we know how to build them.”

One store will stand at 61,000 square feet, the other at 68,700 square feet. Both of these stores are larger than standard Weis Markets’ operations and will feature new amenities such as a beer-wine cafe, full-service pharmacy, and a fuel center.

These stores are part of an overall $100 million capital expansion plan for Weis Markets. Although Weis did not tie down an exact price, he did comment to The Morning Call that the cost would run into the tens of millions.

We must remember how important it is to fortify one’s home base in additional to expanding storefronts. Weis Markets, it seems, is ready to defend its home turf.
