Remco Beekman and Tim Loomans have started Soho Produce, concentrating on the export of Dutch greenhouse vegetables.

"I have about 14 years of experience in the fruit and vegetable sector and in the first place we will concentrate on the export of Dutch glasshouse vegetables to the USA and Canada, which was a little bit 'my market', Remco commented.

He expects most of the company’s trading to involve the U.S. for the next two years, however, but noted the importance of increasing European sales. The company’s European venture will concentrate on supplying high end retailers.

“The American market represents a niche market for Dutch pepper export, but thanks to my experience and business relations I do know my way around. I expect little competition as tomato production increases. Part of the sales have fallen away as a result of anti-dumping measures implemented by Canada a few years ago."

“The advantage of our company is that we arrange both buying and selling. Growers know me. I visit them and I always tell them what happens in the trade. In most cases this is greatly appreciated and suppliers go out of their way for you."

That personal approach is, according to Remco, an important value of Soho Produce. "We know how to deal with suppliers and clients and address building up a relationship for the longer term."

Soho produce is the abbreviation of South Holland Produce and the logo draws on the colors of the Dutch flag.
